Oil drain screw (3) - the photo shows a six-cylinder engine - it becomes accessible only after dismantling the lower lining of the engine compartment. To unscrew it, the most suitable tool is a spanner wrench. Oil filter (1) it is best to unscrew with a strap wrench (in the direction of the arrow). The following photo shows an oil cooler with coolant flowing through it (2).
Order of execution
1. Change oil only when the engine is warm! Therefore, if possible, travel by car.
2. Raise the Audi A4 horizontally (set up stops!) or install it on a ramp.
3. Remove the bottom cover of the engine compartment.
4. Place a suitable container under the crankcase.
5. Unscrew the drain plug with a wrench; let the oil drain. Be careful, it's hot.
6. If you raised the car only from the front, then in order to completely drain the used oil, it must be drained again. Take care not to damage or tip over the collecting container.
7. Place a collecting container under the oil filter.
8. Loosen the oil filter with a strap wrench. If the filter sits very firmly, then pierce its metal housing with a sharp screwdriver (be careful, hot oil comes out) and unscrew the filter with a screwdriver.
9. Lightly lubricate the O-ring of the new oil filter with compound grease.
10. Do not use lubricating oil for this, as it may be mistaken for leaking engine oil during visual inspection.
11. Screw the filter on tightly by hand without using any tools.
12. Wipe clean the drain screw plug and screw in with a new o-ring; but not too hard or you will damage the guide threads on the crankcase.
13. Fill with oil (see table).
14. Start the engine, check the oil tightness.
