Caution: Long-term skin contact with used motor oil can be quite hazardous to health. Use barrier cream or wear rubber gloves when performing the procedures described below.

Note: Frequent engine oil changes are the most important preventative maintenance procedure available to the amateur mechanic. Over time, oil is prone to dilution and contamination, leading to premature engine wear.

1. Warm up the engine to operating temperature and remove the engine oil filler cap.

2. Jack up the car and place it on supports, or drive it into an inspection pit. The car must be positioned horizontally.

3. Remove the decorative engine cover (see Section 19), unscrew the lid (1 in the illustration) 32 mm socket and remove the filter element (3).

6.3. Oil filter installation details.

At the same time, the oil automatically flows into the crankcase. Replace the sealing rings (2 and 4), install the new filter element, paying attention to the position of its lower protrusion, and tighten the filter housing cover with a torque of 35 Nm.

4. Remove the sound insulation under the engine compartment (see Section 19).

5. Unscrew the drain plug from the engine oil pan (see illustrations in the corresponding Section "Working with the lubrication system" of Chapter 2) and drain the engine oil, preventing it from getting on the subframe. Tighten the new plug with the O-ring to the required torque (see Specifications).

Note: The seal is not separated from the plug, but is replaced together with it.

6. Fill the engine oil and tighten the filler plug (see Section 4).

7. Start the engine and let it idle until the low engine oil pressure warning light goes out. Increasing the engine speed when the low engine oil pressure warning light is on can lead to turbocharger failure.

8. Wait 3-5 minutes and check the engine oil level, adjust it again if necessary.

9. Test drive the vehicle and check the drain plug and oil filter for leaks. If necessary, tighten the plug and/or filter slightly. Check the oil level again and adjust it if necessary.
