Maintenance intervals depend on the PR number indicated in the lower left corner of the vehicle data sticker (see illustrations 2a-b of the Introduction). The number "QG1" indicates extended interval servicing "LongLife service", and the numbers "QG0", "QG2" and "QG3" indicate servicing at time- and mileage-based intervals.
Service "LongLife service" is a technology for calculating flexible maintenance intervals, taking into account individual vehicle usage conditions and personal driving style. An important condition for servicing with extended intervals is the use of engine oil "LongLife service". Note: If the engine oil is not in accordance with the service "LongLife service", maintenance must be performed at intervals depending on time and mileage (see below). Models with PR number "QG1" are equipped with a display showing the maintenance interval in the instrument cluster, an engine oil level sensor, and (in some cases) brake pad wear sensor. Flexible maintenance intervals are displayed on the display. The interval calculation takes into account mileage, fuel consumption, engine oil temperature, diesel particulate filter load on diesel models, and other factors. The evaluation of these factors yields a measure of engine oil contamination due to thermal load, which is the decisive factor in determining the remaining mileage before an engine oil change. Note: For some countries, including Russia, even on cars with PR number "QG1" the program "LongLife Service" is switched off and maintenance is carried out in the same way as on models with PR number "QG2".
In the case of time- and mileage-based servicing, the maintenance intervals are pre-set by the manufacturer and correspond to a specific mileage or operating time of the vehicle (whichever comes first). PR number "QG0" is present on models without technology "LongLife service", i.e. without the corresponding components. PR numbers "QG2" and "QG3" are found on models with components required for the technology "LongLife service" (there is no oil quality sensor on QG3 models), but this technology is not activated. At the same time, the display in the instrument cluster shows fixed maintenance intervals depending on time and mileage.
The list of service works performed upon the arrival of a particular period is indicated in the service booklet included with the vehicle. The maintenance schedule is also indicated there.
Some procedures should be performed more frequently under severe operating conditions. Severe operating conditions include:
- Regular short trips or stop-and-go driving (city commute);
- A high proportion of cold engine starts;
- Operating a vehicle in areas with a long winter period;
- Frequent, prolonged periods of idling (for example, when using a car as a taxi);
- Frequent use of the vehicle with the accelerator pedal fully depressed, with a high load, with a trailer or roof rack;
- Operating a vehicle on high sulfur diesel fuel;
- Frequent use of the vehicle in dusty or dirty areas, as well as off-road.
