Vehicles without ride height control
In the Audi-100, the brake force regulator is located along the left in front of the rear axle. It can reduce the fluid pressure in the rear wheel cylinders.
This happens depending on the load: with a fully loaded car, the rear part of the body lowers under light load, if there is one or two people in the car, the deflection of the rear springs is small. Due to excessive pressure on the rear wheels, they lock up prematurely, and the car can turn sideways when braking.
The brake force regulator receives through a spring connected to the rear axle, information about the state of the car's loading - depending on how low the rear axle has fallen.
On vehicles with ride height control, the brake force regulator is hydraulically controlled. Adjustment at home is not possible.
Checking the brake force regulator. Vehicles without ride height control
You will need an assistant to quickly check the action. The vehicle must not be jacked up.
Fully depress the brake pedal and quickly remove your foot.
In this case, the lever of the brake force regulator must move.
Special tools are required for a more precise check, as well as for checking the hydraulic brake force regulator.
Note: The drive of the brake force regulator can be adjusted. Adjustment is required if the rear wheel braking force is too low, or when the rear brakes are locked, or if tuning has been done that changes the freedom of the underbody.
