Table of contents: Torque converter ↓ Transmission ↓ Gear ratios ↓ Oils used ↓
The automatic transmission has three forward gears and one reverse gear. It is combined with the differential, main gear and is located behind the engine. Gear shifting is done by a selector lever on the body floor. The selector lever has six positions: "P" - parking, "R" - reverse; "N" — neutral; "D" — automatic switching of I, II and III gears; "2" - automatic switching of I and II gears; "1" — only 1st gear is engaged.

The engine can only be started if the selector lever is in the "N" or "P" position. The oil lines of the torque converter and gearbox are disconnected.

Automatic transmission type:
  • cars with 4-cylinder engines 089 KAE;
  • cars with 5-cylinder engines of the models "WH" and "KR" 087 RDC;
  • cars with 5-cylinder engines of the "WC" and "KU" 087 RDD models.

  • KP type 089: 0.75.
  • KP type 087: 1.00.

Transmission

The automatic transmission consists of two planetary gears, which are controlled by three oil multi-plate clutches and a band brake, actuated by a piston. The control high oil pressure acting on the clutch pistons is distributed by a valve mechanism located between the gearbox housing and the oil sump. Oil pressure is provided by an oil pump located in the rear cover of the gearbox housing on a common shaft for the entire gearbox and driven by the engine.
