The automatic transmission is removed from underneath the vehicle using a lift.
Removal
Place the car on a lift.
Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
Install clamps on the coolant supply hoses to the transmission oil cooler.
Disconnect the hoses from the oil cooler.
Disconnect the speedometer drive flexible shaft from the gearbox
Attach a hoist or some support to the engine and lift the engine off the ground.
Remove the starter and unscrew the torque converter mounting bolts, as well as the three drive flange mounting bolts.
Remove the right wheel drive shaft shield.
Remove the right gearbox mount bracket shield.
Disconnect the front wheel drives.
Remove the exhaust pipe mounting bracket.
Remove the exhaust pipe.
Remove the counter support, return spring and disconnect the selector lever cable.
Remove the throttle control rod.
Loosen the reverse shift cable and disconnect it from the transmission bracket.
Unscrew the oil filler tube, having first placed a container under the gearbox to collect the drained oil.
Loosen the nuts of the gearbox mounting bolts to the front subframe.
Install a jack with an appropriate support and slightly raise the gearbox.
Remove the lower bolts securing the gearbox to the engine block.
Lift the gearbox slightly away from the engine, but so that the torque converter remains in the clutch housing.
Move the right wheel drive shaft forward.
Disconnect the gearbox from the engine block
Secure the torque converter in the housing.
Installation
Before installing the automatic transmission, properly position the torque converter on the transmission shaft and ensure that it remains in place when installing the transmission.
Bring the gearbox to the mounting points.
Install the lower transmission-to-engine block mounting bolts.
Install the gearbox mount brackets to the front subframe.
Install and connect the transmission oil filler pipe.
Connect the reverse shift cable to the transmission.
Install the throttle control rod.
Attach the selector lever cable and install the return spring and counter support
Install the exhaust pipe with a new gasket between the flanges.
Replace the wheel drive shafts.
Install the right wheel drive shaft shield and the right gearbox mount bracket shield.
Install and tighten the torque converter drive flange mounting bolts.
Install the starter.
Install and tighten the upper transmission-to-engine block bolts.
Disconnect the engine hoist mountings.
Attach the speedometer drive flexible shaft.
Connect the hoses to the oil cooler and remove the clamps from the hoses.
Restore the coolant level in the expansion tank.
Fill the automatic transmission with oil.
