Torque converter (Audi 100 C3)

The torque converter is rigidly connected at three points to the leading flange of the crankshaft flywheel. It rotates together with the flywheel and transmits rotation to the hydraulic drive pump via the central shaft. The turbine shaft, in turn, drives the gears and clutches of the gearbox.



The torque converter is mounted on the splines of the oil pump and turbine shafts, so when installing, special attention should be paid to the position of the torque converter in the clutch housing:

• check the correct installation of the oil pump shaft, the splined part of which should be almost without clearance connected to the turbine shaft;
• install the torque converter on the shafts, gently turning it in both directions to insert it into the splined connection;
• check the recess "a" (see diagram) of the torque converter in the clutch housing, which should be about 30 mm when measured between the end plane of the housing and the front part of the torque converter socket in the flywheel.
