Torque converter marking

There are several types of torque converters. They are marked with letter symbols "arrow".
Removal
The gearbox is secured to the engine and gearbox retainer "VAS 6095". Remove the left shaft with the flange. Secure the puller "T40176" to the torque converter "A" with the nut "B".

Turn the puller "T40176" upwards. To avoid the torque converter tipping over, hold the torque converter from below, as shown in the figure. Ignore the "arrow". Remove the torque converter without tilting it from the input shaft "arrow". Carefully place the torque converter, for example, on a workbench.

Installation
Installation in reverse order. Thoroughly clean the torque converter housing in the differential access area "arrow A" and the shaft seal "arrow B". If the shaft seal ring between the differential and the gearbox housing "arrow B" is damaged, replace it. Half fill the space between the working lips with sealing grease "G 052 128 A1".

Clean the gear engagement of the input shaft "2" and the gear engagement of the torque converter, remove corrosion and apply a very thin layer of consistent grease for the gear engagement of clutch discs "G 000 100" to the engagement. Be sure to remove excess grease.

Carefully, without distorting, place the torque converter using the puller "T40176" on the input shaft "arrow". Unscrew the puller "T40176" from the torque converter "A". Unscrew the nut "B". Install the left shaft with the flange.
Checking the torque converter
Check the hub of the "arrow" torque converter for signs of running-in.

If damaged or faulty, the torque converter must be replaced as an assembly.
