Secure the tank for the ATF oil filling system as high as possible in the vehicle. Risk of damage to the gearbox. Do not start the engine if after repairs or if there is a large loss of ATF oil, the level in the automatic transmission is insufficient or there is no ATF oil. In this case, pre-filling should be done. Remove rear sound insulation shield -2-. Start the engine with the selector lever in position "R". With the brake pedal depressed and idling, move the automatic transmission selector to all positions ("R", "R", "N",,,D", "S"), and each position must be on for at least 10 seconds. Switch selector to position "N". Increase the rotation speed to 2000 rpm. and wait at least 60 seconds. Move the selector lever to position "R". Leave the engine idling. Place a device under the gearbox for filling and pumping out oil.
When the ATF oil reaches a temperature of 35°C, unscrew the ATF oil level screw -arrow B- and, if necessary, drain the excess ATF oil. The ATF oil level plug is accessed through a hole in the tunnel wishbone.
If ATF oil begins to flow out of the inspection hole before the temperature reaches 40°C, then the ATF oil level -arrow- is normal. At ATF temperature maximum 45°C (for countries with hot climates 50? C) The ATF inspection hole should be closed again.
Tighten ATF plug with new seal -arrow- to 9 Nm. This completes the ATF fluid check.
Install sound insulation. If at temperatures up to 40°C ATF oil does not flow out of the inspection hole, perform refueling.
ATF refill
When the ATF temperature reaches no higher than 45°C (for countries with hot climates 50°C) You should close the inspection hole again, if necessary, turn off the engine, allow the gearbox to cool and repeat the check. Insert the filler tip of the ATF oil filler von into the hole in the protective cap -arrow- from below, avoiding pushing the cap upwards. Add ATF oil using the ATF oil filling device until it flows out of the inspection hole. Underfilling or overfilling of ATF oil impairs the functioning of the gearbox.
Tighten ATF plug with new seal -arrow- to 9 Nm. This completes the ATF fluid check. Remove any remaining ATF from the tunnel wishbone and thoroughly clean the tunnel wishbone. On the upper side of the tunnel wishbone there are many grooves in which escaping ATF oil can collect. They should be cleaned thoroughly. -Arrows- ignore. Install sound insulation at the rear.
