Removal
Raise the rear of the vehicle, place it on stands and remove the rear wheels. Perform the following operations on both sides of the vehicle.
Rear brake drum: 1 - until January 1988.; 2 - since January 1988.
Remove the brake drum, which is integral with the wheel hub, as described in the section "Rear suspension".
Remove the lock washers 1 (see photo) with guide springs.
Remove the lower tension spring 2.
Remove the brake pads.
Disconnect the parking brake cable 3.
Clamp the brake pads in a vice.
Remove spring 4 of the automatic clearance adjustment device between the shoes and the drum, then the upper tension spring 5.
Remove tension spring 6.
Installation
Place the pressure spring and install the outer brake shoe onto the expansion bar.
Install the automatic clearance adjustment bar between the pads and the drum with the protrusion towards the brake shield.
Install the inner brake shoe onto the expansion bar.
Attach the upper tension spring, then the parking brake cable to the lever.
Install the brake shoes onto the wheel cylinder pistons.
Install the lower tension spring and move the brake shoes towards the lower support.
Attach the spring of the automatic clearance adjuster between the shoes and the drum.
Install the brake shoe guide springs and lock washers.
Install the drum and adjust the clearance in the wheel hub bearings as described in section "Rear suspension".
Press the brake pedal once fully to set the wheel cylinder pistons to the working position.
