Adjusting the parking brake (Audi 100 C3)

Adjustment of the parking brake is only necessary when replacing the cable or the handbrake drive rod, since the rear brakes have a device for automatic adjustment of the gap between the shoes and the drum.



When replacing brake pads, check and, if necessary, adjust the parking brake adjustment, for which

• set the parking brake lever to the lowest position;
• loosen the tensioner adjusting nut as much as possible;
• press the brake pedal all the way down;
• raise the parking brake lever by three sector teeth;
• tighten the adjusting nut so that both rear wheels can be turned manually with considerable effort;
• lower the parking brake levers to the lowest position and make sure that both rear wheels rotate freely; if necessary, check for binding in the parking brake drive.
