Pic. 15–16. Rear brake caliper: 1 - self-locking bolt, 30 Nm; 2 - brake shoe; 3 - caliper holder with guide pins and protective covers (supplied assembled as spare parts); 4 - bolt (on vehicles with a steel knuckle tightening torque 60 Nm, with an aluminum knuckle 70 Nm + tighten additionally by an angle of 90°); 5 - brake disc; 6 - support
Elements of the back brake mechanism are resulted on fig. 15–16.
Withdrawal
Raise the rear of the car and secure it on stands.
Be sure to replace all the pads on one axle of the vehicle, even if only one of them is worn.
Pic. 15–17. Unscrewing the caliper mounting bolts
Unscrew the caliper mounting bolts while holding the guide pin from turning (pic. 15–17). Remove the caliper and use soft wire to tie the caliper to the rear suspension. The brake caliper must not hang on the brake hose. The brake hose must not be stretched or kinked.
If the old pads will be reinstalled, mark them.
Remove the brake pads from the caliper.
Clean the caliper from dust and dirt.
Installation
When installing new brake pads, the piston must be screwed into the caliper. When the piston is screwed in, the brake fluid is forced out of the brake cylinder into the expansion tank, so constantly monitor the level of brake fluid in the tank, if necessary, pump out the fluid from the tank.
Pic. 15–18. Screwing the piston into the caliper using special tool 3272
Tool 3272 must be used to screw the piston into the cylinder. Install the tool so that its shoulder fits into the grooves of the piston. Rotate the body of the special tool counterclockwise until it stops. Turning the handle of the special tool clockwise, screw the piston into the caliper (pic. 15–18).
If you don't have a special tool, screw the piston into the caliper using angle ring pliers.
Install the brake pads in the caliper holder, making sure that the pressure springs are vertical. If old pads are installed, make sure they are installed in the same way as before removal.
Install the caliper, screw in a new guide pin mounting bolt and tighten it to 35 Nm. One new bolt for each caliper is applied to each set of brake pads.
Install the rear wheels and lower the vehicle.
Check the brake fluid level and top up if necessary.
Depress the brake pedal to bring the pads into position.
