Remove the ABS sensor from the steering knuckle.
Pic. 15–3. Checking the condition of the ABS sensor rotor through the ABS sensor hole
Turning the drive shaft through the hole for installing the ABS sensor (pic. 15–3), gradually check the ABS sensor rotor for damage and contamination.
If the rotor is damaged, the outer CV joint of the drive shaft must be replaced.
If the ABS sensor rotor is dirty, clean it of dirt. To access the ABS sensor rotor, unscrew the bolt securing the drive shaft to the hub and move the shaft inward.
Under no circumstances should the vehicle be lowered onto the wheels with two or one of the drive shafts removed, as this will damage the wheel bearings. If it is necessary to install the car on wheels and move it with the drive shafts removed, install an external CV joint instead of the shaft and tighten its fastening bolt to 50 Nm.
Install the drive shaft into the hub and secure it with a bolt, tightening to 190 Nm and additionally turning it through an angle of 180°.
