The power steering pump is used to provide hydraulic pressure to the regulator valve. The regulator valve controls the pressure applied to the two rear suspension strut blocks. The struts act as shock absorbers, but with the added ability to change height. The regulator valve is connected to the rear axle by an adjustable tie rod and a gas-charged suspension reservoir located between the regulator valve and each strut block.
As the load on the rear axle changes, the hydraulic pressure in the strut blocks increases or decreases, thus raising or lowering the rear of the vehicle.
Except for the procedures described in the following Chapters, all other repair operations must be referred to an Audi dealer equipped to perform the work.
