The self-levelling system is hydraulically controlled and keeps the rear of the vehicle at a constant height regardless of the load.
A power steering pump is used to provide hydraulic pressure to the governor valve. The regulator valve controls the pressure applied to the two rear suspension strut blocks. Racks perform the function of shock absorbers, but with the addition of the ability to change height. The regulator valve is connected to the rear axle by an adjustable linkage and a gas-charged suspension reservoir located between the regulator valve and each strut block.
As the load on the rear axle changes, the hydraulic pressure in the strut blocks increases or decreases, thus raising or lowering the rear of the vehicle.
Apart from the procedures described in the following chapters, all other repairs must be entrusted to an Audi dealer equipped to carry out the work.
