The installed 12 V battery has 6 cans (cells), which consist of positive and negative plates located in a sulfuric acid solution. The task of the battery is to supply current for starting the engine, lighting and other devices. The installed battery has different capacities in accordance with the installed engine and additional equipment. You need to know the exact capacity of the battery installed in your car. The operations described below should be performed from time to time to increase the service life of the battery and to maintain it in good condition. These batteries are designated as maintenance-free, i.e. under normal operating conditions there is no need to top up the battery. However, sometimes it may happen that the electrolyte level in the battery decreases.
The battery and surrounding parts must always be kept clean. The surface of the battery must always be dry, otherwise leakage currents may occur between the cans, causing self-discharge of the battery.
The electrolyte level in the battery should be at the upper line on the battery case. Use distilled water to top up.
In cold weather, the battery should not be left uncharged, otherwise it will freeze. A weakly charged battery will freeze earlier than a charged one, i.e. it must be properly maintained.
