Make sure the battery mounting bracket is in good condition. Remove traces of corrosion on the bracket, clamps and the battery itself with a soda water solution. Then thoroughly rinse the treated surfaces with water. Cover metal parts damaged by corrosion with a zinc-based primer and paint over them.
Periodically (at least once every three months) check the battery charge level as indicated in chapter 5A.
If the battery is discharged, the engine can be started using the backup battery (see "Repairs on the road").
1. The battery is located near the engine shield in the rear part of the engine compartment.

2. Periodically inspect the outside of the battery for cracks in the case or cover. Inspect the wires and clamps with terminals (A) for damage and to check the reliability of the electrical connections. Also check the connecting wires (B) of the battery for damage to the insulation.

3. In case of corrosion (white loose deposits), remove the wires from the battery, clean the contacts with a wire brush, put the wire tips on the terminals. Brushes can be purchased at the store...

4. ... as well as for battery cable tips.

Battery corrosion can be minimized by lubricating the battery terminals and clamps with petroleum jelly.
