Spark plug designations
With the designations in the table on the next page, you will purchase spark plugs that match your vehicle. What is hidden behind the numbers and letters?
Heat rating: Spark plugs must be rated for the temperatures that occur in the engine during combustion. The rating tells you how much heat the spark plug can remove without overheating itself. If the plug removes too much heat, it does not reach the self-cleaning temperature and soot will settle on the spark plug electrodes.
Electrodes: The Audi 100 uses spark plugs with three electrodes.
Spark plug thread: its length for spark plugs for Audi-100 is 19 mm; thread diameter - 14 mm.
Spanner size: The Allen key for installing spark plugs should be 20.8 mm wide for 4- and 5-cylinder engine models, and 16 mm wide for 6-cylinder engines.
Sealing Surface: All engines require spark plugs with a flat sealing surface. They are equipped with a non-falling sealing ring, so no additional sealing ring needs to be inserted.
