Candle designations
Use the symbols in the table below to find the correct spark plugs for your Audi A4 model. What is behind the numbers and letters?
Heat number: spark plugs must be suitable for the temperatures that occur in the combustion chambers of the engine.
The index gives information about the temperature that the spark plug can withstand, i.e. able to give without overheating. If the spark plug gives off too much heat, it will not reach its self-cleaning temperature on its own and soot will form on the spark plugs.
Electrodes: The Audi A4 uses spark plugs with only three ground electrodes.
Thread: in spark plugs for the Audi A4, it must be 19 mm long; thread diameter is 14 mm.
Wrench opening width: The hexagon socket for the spark plug in the four- and six-cylinder engines of the Audi A4 is 16 mm wide.
Sealing Surface: All engines are available with flat sealing spark plugs. They have a non-removable sealing ring, so there is no need for additional sealing.
