Candlestick Designations
Using the designations in the table below, you will buy the right spark plugs for your Audi A4 model. What is hidden behind the numbers and letters?
Heat rating: Spark plugs must be matched to the temperatures occurring in the engine combustion chambers.
The index provides information about the temperature that the spark plug can withstand, i.e. it can give off without overheating. If the spark plug gives off too much heat, it itself does not reach the self-cleaning temperature, and soot is deposited on the spark plugs.
Electrodes: The Audi A4 uses spark plugs with only three ground electrodes.
Thread: In spark plugs for Audi A4 it should be 19 mm long; the thread diameter is 14 mm.
Spanner width: The hexagonal spanner for installing on the spark plug in four- and six-cylinder engines in the Audi A4 has a width of 16 mm.
Sealing Surface: All engines are equipped with spark plugs with a flat sealing surface. They have a permanent sealing ring, so there is no need for additional sealing.
