The distributor high voltage wires are connected to the spark plugs according to the ignition sequence in the 1.6L engine. The numbers show which cylinder this wire should go to (numbering system from front to back). letter «Z» the main high voltage wire to the spark plugs is marked.
74 kW motor
The distributor is somewhat two-story. Each floor does a different job:
- At the top, a rotating distributor pin supplies high voltage current to the individual spark plugs.
- At the bottom of the distributor is a Hall sensor that sends ignition pulses.
How to open the dispenser
1. Press out the metal fastening brackets of the cover with a screwdriver.
2. Disconnect the screen wire connected to ground.
3. Remove the distributor cap, the high voltage wire remains connected.
4. Disconnect the distributor pin, remove the dust cover located under it.
5. When mounting the dust cover, place it so that its fastening lug fits into the groove on the edge of the distributor body.
6. On the distributor pin there is a welded ledge that fits into the recess of the distributor shaft.
7. The distributor cap also has a welded anti-twist tab that must fit into the cutout in the distributor body.
Checking the ignition distributor
1. Remove the distributor cap. It must be clean on the inside and outside in order to not get a jumper that conducts the ignition current due to dirt, abrasion products or moisture.
Important: clean the contacts of the ignition wires on the inside of the distributor. The oxide layer causes ignition problems.
2. The graphite contact brush in the middle should be smooth and shiny, easy to compress and unclench again without jamming.
3. The distributor pin must not be melted in the area of the contact tab and over the anti-interference potting compound between the middle contact and the tab. The distributor pin must be marked «R1».
4. Pencil-like streaks on the distributor cap are traces of burns from creeping currents that have worked their way through dirt or dampness and left these burns.
5. In this case, as a temporary help, you can scrape them off with a screwdriver or knife and cover them with all-purpose glue, nail polish, or lipstick in an emergency.
