Removal
The immobilizer reading coil is attached to the lock cylinder and cannot be replaced separately. If the reading coil is faulty, the lock cylinder must be replaced. When replacing the lock cylinder, follow the instructions for the immobilizer reading coil. Remove the steering column switch. Disconnect the reading coil connector.

Audi A2 "31": set the gear selector lever to the "STOP" position. Turn the ignition key to the "Ignition on" position "arrow". Then lift the locking bracket "1" and remove the lock "2" from the ignition lock housing. To remove the lock cylinder, you need a spare key without lighting and remote control functions, since removal is only possible with a key with a flat handle.

Turn the spare key to the "Ignition ON" position, whereby the cutout in the "arrow" trim is covered by the opening in the ignition lock. For better understanding, the correct position of the lock without the ignition key is shown.

Insert steel wire or pin "1" (approx. 1.5 mm) into the hole until it stops and at the same time remove the cylinder of lock "2" with the reading coil from the housing "3" of the steering shaft lock.
Caution! Do not operate the steering shaft lock without the lock cylinder, otherwise the lock will be completely blocked. A blocked steering shaft lock must be replaced. When replacing the lock cylinder, follow the instructions for the immobilizer reading coil.
Installation
Installation is carried out in reverse order, inserting the spare key into the cylinder and turning it to the "Ignition on" position. Insert the steel wire or pin "1" into the front hole again until it stops. Insert the lock cylinder "2" with the reading coil into the housing "3" of the steering shaft lock. Then remove the steel wire and press the lock cylinder inward until it clicks clearly. Connect the connector of the immobilizer reading coil. Turn the ignition key to the "Zundung ein/Ignition on" position. Insert the locking rod "2" into the ignition lock housing until it clicks. The stopper "1" must be flush with the ignition lock housing. Install the steering column switch.
