Withdrawal
Set the steering wheel as far back and down as possible, using the full range of steering column adjustment to do this. Remove Airbag. Remove steering wheel. Removal and installation of the return ring with slip ring must be done in the middle position (wheels in straight ahead position).
Set the light switch to position "0". Press the switch -arrow 1- and simultaneously turn it to the right -arrow 2-. While holding the switch in this position, remove the light switch from the switch housing -arrow 3-. Disconnect connectors. Remove the storage compartment on the driver's side.
Remove trim -1- in -direction of arrow-. Remove screws -1...5-. Remove the top and bottom steering column covers.
Disconnect connectors -1- and -2-.
Once again check the straight position of the steering column and front wheels. The yellow dot must be visible through the hole -arrow 1- and the two marks -arrows- must be on the same line.
Secure slip ring in center position with adhesive tape -arrow-.
Loosen the screw -arrow- of the clamp until the switch on the steering column can be removed. Disconnect the steering column switch connectors.
Installation
Install in reverse order, removing tape -arrow-.
Check whether the steering angle sender -G85- is in the center position: a yellow dot must be visible in the hole -arrow 1- and both marks -arrows- must be in line. Before fixing, make sure that the plug connections are clean.
Install the lower switch cover on the steering column. Install the steering wheel on the steering column. Measure distance -a- between steering wheel -3- and steering column switch -2- (distance -a- = 3 mm). If the distance -a- does not correspond, move the switch with the lower trim along the steering column. If distance -a- is correct, tighten screw -1-. Insert the upper lining of the steering column switch into the lower hooks of the lining, compress and screw both parts. Install the storage compartment on the driver's side. Install steering wheel. Install Airbag. Carry out basic setting of steering angle sender -G85-. On vehicles with ABS/ESP Mark 60, test drive ESP in "basic setting 093".
