Be careful when handling ignition (Audi A4 B5)

In the engine compartment of the Audi A4, a sticker warns of high voltages in the ignition system, and for good reason: even in the thin wire to the ignition coil, voltages of up to 100 volts with high current can occur, not to mention the ignition voltage, which can be over 30,000 volts (at low current strength) extremely dangerous. Therefore:

Execution order

1. Touch all electrical wires and instrument connections only when the ignition is off, this also applies to connecting and disconnecting them.

2. Disconnect the battery only when the ignition is off.

3. If the engine needs to be turned over with the starter without starting it, the ignition must be disconnected (see next section).

4. When washing the engine, the ignition must also be turned off.

5. To start the engine with a discharged battery using a fast charger, it must be connected for a maximum of one minute and the voltage must not exceed 16.5 V.

6. If there is or is suspected to be a defect in the ignition system, turn off the ignition when towing the vehicle (see next section).

7. Do not connect the capacitor to terminal 1 of the ignition coil.

8. Do not replace the 74 kW engine ignition distributor rotor with any other, but use only the original part with the correct resistance. The same applies to the ignition wires and spark plug connectors of all engines.
