Execution order
1. Remove cover 33 (see Fig. Diesel engine).

2. Set the piston of the 1st cylinder to TDC. The marks on the flywheel and clutch housing, as well as on the gear wheel 36 and bracket, must match, as shown in drawing.
3. Loosen the spring by turning the VW210 belt tension tester handle. Position the tester between the camshaft and high-pressure fuel pump gears so that the belt rests against the tester sensor.
4. Tighten the spring by turning the handle of the device to 12–13 units of the scale. A steel tongue with a white mark protrudes from the side of the sensor. This mark should match the edge of the device. If it does not match, adjust the belt tension.
