2. Jack up the front of the car and securely fasten it to the axle supports.
3. While slowly rotating the wheel, inspect the condition of the outer rubber boots. Also check the reliability and condition of the mounting clamps (photo). Repeat this check on the inner CV joints. If damage is found in the connections, see. Chapter 4.

4. While continuing to rotate the wheel, check the drive shafts for distortion or damage. Check for play in the joints by holding the drive shaft firmly and attempting to rotate the wheel. Repeat this while rotating the differential flange. Any significant movement indicates wear in the joints, in the drive shaft grooves, or loose hub bolts or nut.
5. While driving, check the clearance in the cardan transmission when switching from acceleration to engine braking and vice versa. If the car vibrates when accelerating, this usually indicates wear in the CV joints.
