Models with manual transmission
1. Remove the wheel cap, unscrew the lock nut of the drive shaft.
2. Loosen the four wheel bolts.
3. Jack up the front of the car. Remove the wheel.
4. When working with the right drive shaft, remove the exhaust pipe of the muffler, the heat-resistant shield under the inner CV joint.
5. Unscrew the bolts securing the inner CV joint, remove the bolts with spacer plates (photo). Separate the inner CV joint from the differential gear flange, slide the drive shaft up towards the transmission.
6. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left if you are working with a left drive shaft, or to the right until it stops if you are working with a right drive shaft.
7. Attach the extractor to the front hub using the wheel bolts.
8. Press the drive shaft out of the front hub, remove the shaft assembly from under the car (photo).
Models with automatic transmission
9. Follow the steps described in points 1-4 inclusive.
10. From the side you are working on, remove the two bolts securing the anti-roll bar clip to the cross member.
11. Turn off a nut, remove a tightening bolt fixing the spherical hinge of the lever to a rack of a suspension bracket. Separate the ball joint from the rack (photo).
12. Turn off bolts of fastening of an internal SHRUS, remove bolts with spacer plates. Separate the inner CV joint from the differential gear flange.
13. Attach the extractor to the front hub with wheel bolts.
14. Press the drive shaft out of the front hub. Get a power shaft from under the car.
All models
15. Do not move the car with the drive shaft removed, the wheel bearing may be damaged.
16. Installation is carried out in reverse order, following the steps below:
- a) The grooves and threads on the outer CV joint must be cleaned, before installing the drive shaft, apply a blocking compound into the grooves on the end (photo).
- b) Always use a new drive shaft lock nut, inner flange seal and, if applicable, arm ball joint clamp bolt and nut.
- c) Tighten all nuts and bolts to the torque specified in the Specifications (photo).
