For your own safety, you should check your brake lights as often as possible.
When you press the brake pedal, the garage wall behind your car on the right and left should flash a bright red light.
When driving in a convoy, you can see in your interior rearview mirror whether both brake lights of your car are reflected in the headlight reflectors or on the paintwork of the car following you.
