Get behind the wheel and check one thing at a time:
Does the clock work? (digital or pointer)?
Turn on the ignition. The battery charge indicator and ABS indicator should flash (for a short time), airbag indicator (goes out after about 10 sec) and the parking brake indicator when the handbrake is applied.
Model not equipped with an automatic check system: in the luminous field at the top between the round instruments, the coolant temperature indicator, brake light indicator and oil pressure indicator should flash.
In a car equipped with an automatic check system, the following message appears in the luminous field between the round instruments when the ignition is turned on: "Bremslicht" (braking distance). After briefly pressing the brake pedal, the "OK" icon (order) should appear.
The arrows of the fuel level and coolant temperature indicators move along the scales with a slight delay (only when the engine is warm).
Turn on the direction indicators: depending on the selected direction, one of the green direction indicator lights should flash rhythmically. Press the hazard warning light switch: both direction indicator lights and the hazard warning light indicator light will flash (located in the switch).
Pull the turn signal lever towards the steering wheel: the high beam indicator should flash.
Start the engine - does the pressure gauge work?
During a test drive, check the speedometer and coolant temperature indicator.
Removal the instrument panel
Remove the steering wheel.
Remove the upper part of the trim panel with the lever switches behind the steering wheel. To do this, unscrew the two Phillips-head screws on the right and left at the bottom of the trim panel and remove the upper part.
Loosen the three Phillips head screws at the bottom of the instrument cluster.
Remove the panel on the left and unplug it from the plug connection on the right side of the panel.
Loosen the three Phillips head screws at the bottom of the instrument cluster.
Carefully pull the shield out of the instrument panel.
After removing the mount (pry up the plastic clips or unfasten the fasteners) carefully disconnect the multi-pin plug.
Remove the panel under the instrument panel after unscrewing the two screws (arrow) and disconnect the plug connection on the rear side on the right.
Removal of the combination instrument panel is accomplished by removing the three Phillips head screws at the bottom with the panel removed.
