- Does the clock on the combination instrument work?
- When the ignition is turned on, the battery charge indicator and low oil pressure indicator should light up. In addition, the coolant temperature, catalytic converter, airbag system, brake system and handbrake indicators should light up (with the lever tightened). The following systems' indicator lights should also be on: anti-theft device, anti-lock braking system and steering system.
- Operate the hazard warning lights, rear window heating, front and rear fog lights switches. Do the corresponding indicators respond to the switch?
- When the lights are on, do the instrument and switch lights, as well as the low and high beams, light up? Does the buzzer sound to warn you that the lights and/or radio are not turned off?
- Operate the left lever on the steering column switch. Does the turn signal and high beam indicator light up? Does the light signal work?
- Operate the right lever on the steering column switch. Do the windshield wipers and washers work?
- Does the sound signal work?
- Start the engine. The battery charge indicator and low oil pressure indicator should go out.
- While driving, check the operation of the speedometer.
The devices do not work
Low oil pressure indicator does not come on (after starting the engine): Turn on the ignition, remove the wire from the oil pressure sensor and touch it to bare metal. If the indicator lights up after this, the sensor is faulty and must be replaced. If the indicator still does not light up, the power wire, the printed conductor in the combination instrument, or the indicator lamp is faulty.
Fuel gauge not working: Malfunction of the gauge itself or the sensor in the fuel tank (the float is stuck). There may be no power supply. In the electrical part of the fuel gauge, troubleshooting can be done to a limited extent. Remove the sensor cover and check the integrity of the wires that go to the plug and to the sensor itself.
The coolant overheating indicator does not light: The sensor for this indicator is a dual-action sensor: one pair of contacts is connected to the engine management system, and the other to the combined instrument panel. The sensor is located in the coolant system pipe behind the cylinder head. Measure the resistance of the sensor with a multimeter in accordance with the instructions given in Chapter "Cooling system".
