Until January 1988, depending on the configuration, the Audi 100 cars were equipped with a four-speed gearbox with four forward gears and one reverse gear with synchronizers on all forward gears. The gearbox is combined with the differential and final drive. Gear shifting is performed by a lever on the body floor. Gearbox type: 014 II with index QN or 4X.
Adjustment data
Axial clearance between the end face of the locking ring and the end face of the toothed ring of the synchronizer gear (see picture p. 79), mm:
- nominal:
- synchronizer of 1st and 2nd gears: 1.10-1.70;
- synchronizer III and IV gears: 1.35-1.90;
- minimum acceptable (when worn out): 0,50.
The axial clearance of the IV gear of the secondary shaft is selected by selecting the thickness of the retaining rings. Spare parts are supplied with retaining rings with a thickness of 2.35; 2,38; 2,41; 2.44 and 2.47 mm.
The axial clearance of the 3rd gear pinion of the secondary shaft is selected by selecting the thickness of the retaining rings. Spare parts are supplied with retaining rings with a thickness of 1.50 and 1.60 mm.
Axial clearance of the IV gear of the primary shaft, mm: 0.10-0.40. It is adjusted by selecting the thickness of the thrust washer. Spare parts are supplied with thrust washers with a thickness of 3.47; 3.57 and 3.67 mm.
The position of the rear bearings of the primary and secondary shafts is adjusted by selecting the thickness of the adjusting rings installed in the sockets of the rear cover of the gearbox. Adjusting rings with a thickness of 1.53 are supplied as spare parts; 1,58; 1.63 and 1.68 mm for the rear bearing of the primary shaft and thickness from 0.15 to 1.40 mm with an interval of every 0.5 mm for the rear bearing.
The depth of the speedometer drive pinion relative to the end of the differential box, mm: 1.4.
The distance between the differential axis and the end face of the main gear drive pinion, which determines the contact of the working surface of the main gear pinion teeth, is adjusted by adjusting the clearance between the secondary shaft rear bearing and the gearbox housing by installing adjusting rings of the required thickness. Adjusting rings with a thickness of 0.15 are supplied as spare parts; 0.20 and 0.25 mm and from 0.30 to 1.20 mm with an interval of every 0.10 mm.
Adjustment of the differential bearing preload and the lateral clearance between the main gear teeth is made by installing adjusting rings between the differential bearing and the clutch housing. The differential bearings should be mounted with a preload of 0.40 mm.
Spare parts include adjusting rings with a thickness of 0.15 and 1.20 mm and a thickness of 0.20 to 1.00 mm with an interval of every 0.10 mm.
