Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

Manually separate the steering wheel trim cover.

Disconnect the horn connector.

Loosen the steering wheel mounting nut.

Disconnect the speedometer drive flexible shaft from the transmission.

Pull the instrument cluster forward.

Disconnect the speedometer drive flexible shaft from the socket in the instrument cluster.

Disconnect the instrument cluster electrical connectors.

Disconnect the vacuum tube from the economizer.



Remove the instrument cluster.

Install the instrument cluster in the reverse order of removal.

Since January 1988, a new instrument cluster has been installed on the Audi "100" and "Avant". As a result, the removal and installation of the instrument cluster should be carried out as follows:
  • disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery;
  • remove the steering wheel;
  • unscrew the bolt securing the steering column switch and remove the switch;
  • remove the instrument cluster mounting bar;
  • unscrew screw 2 (see picture) instrument cluster mounts;
  • remove the instrument cluster, disconnect the plug connectors and disconnect the speedometer drive flexible shaft;
  • install the instrument cluster in the reverse order of removal.
