Steering parts for vehicles with the PROCON-TEN passive safety system: 1 - drive gear shaft; 2 - Instrument panel bracket; 3 - steering shaft; 4 - cable; 5 - steering shaft support; 6 - anti-theft device housing; 7 - pipe with flange (power steering); 8 - pipe with flange (mechanical steering); 9 - safety bracket; 10 - connecting bolt of the terminal connection; 11 - tension clamp


Removal



Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

Remove the lower left instrument panel trim.

Remove the left ventilation nozzle from the floor side.

Remove the steering wheel.

Remove the steering column switch with the trim cover.

Remove the instrument cluster protective strip.

Remove the instrument cluster.

Disconnect the ignition switch connector.

Loosen the clamping bolt of the pipe-flange terminal connection.

Note: On vehicles with mechanical steering, move the front end gasket to gain access to the pipe flange.


Remove the pipe with the flange.

Remove the Allen key bolt securing the anti-theft device housing.

Disconnect the PROCON-TEN system cable from the steering shaft support.



Loosen and remove the bolts securing the shaft support to the instrument panel bracket.

Slide the steering shaft support and the anti-theft device housing downwards.

Remove the anti-theft device housing from the shaft support.

Remove the steering shaft with support through the hole in the instrument cluster panel.

Installation



Place the steering shaft into the support and carefully slide them through the hole in the instrument cluster panel.

Install the anti-theft device housing into the shaft support, insert the shaft support into the instrument panel bracket and insert the bolts into the bracket and shaft support. Screw new nuts onto the bolts.

Tighten the anti-theft device housing mounting bolt to a torque of 0.6 kgf·m

Insert the ignition key into the ignition switch.

Unlock the anti-theft device so that the steering shaft can rotate.

On vehicles with mechanical steering, install the front shield gasket onto the flanged pipe.

Install the pipe with flange with safety clamp.

Install and tighten the new terminal connection tightening bolt.



Connect the safety bracket, flange pipe and steering shaft, tightening the new nuts to a torque of 2.5 kgf·m.

Connect the steering shaft to the drive pinion shaft by tightening the new tie bolt nut to a torque of 2.5 kgf·m.

Install the PROCON-TEN system cable into the steering shaft opera.

Center the steering shaft support in the instrument panel bracket so that the ignition lock cylinder is positioned opposite the hole in the instrument panel.

Tighten the nuts of the steering shaft support bolts to the instrument panel bracket to a torque of 3.5 kgf·m

Install the left ventilation nozzle on the floor side.

Connect the ignition switch connector.

Install the instrument cluster together with the protective strip.

Install the spring onto the steering shaft.

Installing the spring and adjusting washers on the steering shaft using tool 3168: 1 - Threaded rod; 6 - lock nut


Install the adjusting washers using tool 3168, to do this:
  • screw the device together with the threaded rod until it stops on the steering shaft, without tightening the rod nut;
  • lock the threaded rod and tighten the nut until the spring closes (until the turns touch);

Note: Overtightening the nut may damage the spring.



  • unscrew the nut and remove the threaded rod from the steering shaft.

Install the steering column switch.

Connect the wire to the negative terminal of the battery.

Install the lower left instrument panel trim.

Install the steering wheel.

Note: The steering wheel spoke should be horizontal when the front wheels are in a straight-ahead position.
