Cooling system — flushing (Audi 100 C3)

1. Over time, the passages in the radiator and the water passages in the engine can become narrowed or even blocked with sediment. When this happens, the coolant will appear rusty and dark, and the system will need to be flushed.

2. Drain the cooling system as described in Chapter 2.

3. Disconnect the top hose from the radiator, insert the water hose into the radiator and run water. Run water through it until it runs clear.

4. If the water does not become clear, the radiator can be flushed with a cleaning agent such as Holts Radflush or Holts Speedflush.

5. Insert the hose into the expansion tank and allow water to flow through the supply hose.

6. In case of severe contamination, remove the radiator, turn it upside down and rinse with water until it becomes clear.

7. To flush the engine and heater, insert a water hose into the top hose, run water through the system until it runs clear from the return hose.
