European models
1. To remove the bulb, open the hood and remove the bulb cover by turning it counterclockwise on the Audi 100 (photo), or by unhooking the wiring harness retaining clip.

2. Disconnect the wiring from the incandescent lamp (photo).

3. Press the ends of the lamp mounting bracket and tilt it to the side on the Audi 100 (photo), or turn the locking ring counterclockwise on the Audi 200.

4. Remove the bulb from the headlight assembly (photo). Be careful not to touch the bulb glass with your hands; if you touch it, clean the lamp with methyl alcohol.

5. To remove the headlamp assembly, remove the front turn signal (Audi 100), or additional driving lamp, and the parking lamp bulb as described in Chapter 13.
6. Remove the radiator grille as described in Section 11.
7. Carefully remove the upper bumper trim strip (photo).

8. Disconnect the load adjustment rod at the rear of the headlight. Remove the two upper and two lower mounting screws, remove the unit from the car (photo).


9. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
North American models
10. To remove the headlight seal, open the hood, disconnect the wiring at the back of the headlight bulb.
11. Remove the side marker bulb socket.
12. Remove the two trim mounting screws (Fig. 12.17), push and remove the trim from the guides.

13. Remove the four screws securing the headlight bulb retainer, remove the retainer and discard the seal.
14. To remove the headlight mounting frame, remove both bulb seals on the side to be removed.
15. Unscrew the four screws securing the mounting frame and remove the frame from the vehicle.
16. Installation of seals and mounting frame is carried out in the reverse order.
