Due to the complex nature of the anti-lock braking system, the following precautions must be observed when performing maintenance and repair work on vehicles equipped with an ABS system.
1. Whenever after disconnecting the battery poles, check that the clamps are secure during installation.
2. Disconnect the connector of the electronic control device before electric welding on the vehicle.
3. The battery ground clamp must be disconnected before removing the hydraulic modulator.
4. Do not overheat the electronic control device. The maximum allowable temperature is 95°C for a very short time or 85°C for up to two hours.
5. After any service or repair such as brake pad replacement, brake disc replacement, handbrake cable adjustment or replacement, or any work on ABS components, road test the vehicle and check that the ABS warning light is off when the vehicle reaches a speed of 4 km. /hour. If the alarm lamp is on, there is damage in the system.
6. If necessary, bleed the brake hydraulic system after the repair operation using a pressure bleeding system (see chapter 17).
