ABS — precautions (Audi 100 C3)

Due to the complex nature of the anti-lock braking system, the following precautions must be observed when performing service and repair work on vehicles equipped with the ABS system.

1. Every time after disconnecting the battery terminals, check that the clamps are securely fastened during installation.

2. Disconnect the ECU connector before electric welding on the vehicle.

3. The battery ground clamp must be disconnected before removing the hydraulic modulator.

4. Do not overheat the electronic control device. The maximum permissible temperature is 95°C for a very short time or 85°C for up to two hours.

5. After any maintenance or repair such as replacing the brake pad, brake disc, adjusting the handbrake cable or replacing or any work on the ABS components, road test the vehicle and check that the ABS warning light does not illuminate when the vehicle reaches 4 km/h. If the warning light illuminates, there is damage to the system.

6. If necessary, bleed the brake hydraulic system after the repair operation using the pressure bleeding system (see Chapter 17).
