The car is equipped with an alternator. Depending on the model and equipment, the car can be equipped with generators of different power.

Caution: If high-power electrical consumers are installed on the vehicle at a later date, it is necessary to check whether the installed generator has sufficient power. If necessary, a more powerful generator can be installed.

The alternating current generated by the generator is rectified into direct current, for which a diode rectifier is used. The battery is charged with direct current. The voltage regulator controls the magnitude of the charging current so that the voltage remains equal to 14 V regardless of the engine speed.

Warning: Generators are available as exchange units. The cost of the damaged generator is credited towards the purchase of a new or refurbished one.

When working on electrical equipment in the engine compartment, be sure to disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

Warning: This will erase the electronic memory units, such as the engine fault memory. Before disconnecting the battery, please read the instructions in Section Replacing the battery.

  • Do not disconnect the battery or voltage regulator while the engine is running.
  • Do not remove the generator while the battery is connected.
  • When carrying out electric welding work, be sure to disconnect the battery.
