Since a large power consumption is required to start the engine, it is necessary to pay attention to the reliable connection of the cables when carrying out maintenance. Rusted contacts should be cleaned and lubricated with grease.
4 cylinder engine
Withdrawal
1. Disconnect the negative cable (-) battery.
Warning: Follow the instructions in Section Replacing the battery.
2. Remove the lower engine cover forward, refer to Section Removal and installation of the upper engine cover / lower protection of the engine compartment / subframe.
3. Diesel engine: Remove the bottom cover of the engine back, refer to Section Removal and installation of the upper engine cover / lower protection of the engine compartment / subframe.
4. Disconnect the B+ terminal wire (2) from the starter.
5. Disconnect the terminal 50 connector (1).
6. If necessary, remove the insulator on the positive terminal of the starter.
7. Disconnect the clamp (4) cable.
8. Gasoline engine: Detach the holder (3).
9. Turn out bolts (1) And (2) and pull the starter forward.
Installation
1. Torque starter 45Nm (screw M10) or 65Nm (screw M12) at the checkpoint.
2. Fasten the B+ terminal wire with torque 16Nm on the starter.
3. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
6 cylinder engine
Withdrawal
1. Disconnect the negative cable (-) battery.
Warning: Follow the instructions in Section Replacing the battery.
2. Remove the lower engine cover forward, refer to Section Removal and installation of the upper engine cover / lower protection of the engine compartment / subframe.
3. Diesel engine: Remove the bottom cover of the engine back, refer to Section Removal and installation of the upper engine cover / lower protection of the engine compartment / subframe.
4. Remove the generator, refer to Section Removal and installation of the generator.
Safety note
Caution: The operation of lifting and placing the vehicle on stands is dangerous! Therefore, before carrying out the operation, read Section Jacking and towing.
1. Loosen the wheel bolts. Raise and support the car and remove the right front wheel.
2. Remove the bolts (arrows on the accompanying illustration) and disconnect the heat shield of the drive shaft.
3. Disconnect the wire for terminal B+ (2) from the starter).
4. Disconnect the connector of terminal 50 (1).
5. Remove heat shield (3) traction relay.
6. Turn out bolts (arrows) and remove the starter.
Installation
1. Torque starter 45 Nm at the checkpoint.
2. Fasten the B+ terminal wire with torque 16 Nm on the starter.
3. Bolt the heat shield of the drive shaft to 23 Nm.
4. Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
