Warning: When disconnecting the battery, non-AUDI radio equipment requires a code to be entered. Therefore, it is necessary to find out the code and write it down. Otherwise, the radio can only be switched on by its manufacturer.
Warning: To avoid losing data recorded on electronic media, you can use a temporary battery of small capacity. It is connected to the cigarette lighter before disconnecting the battery according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Removal
1. Turn off electrical consumers. Turn off the ignition. This will protect electronic devices from possible damage.
2. Models with Telematik system: Activate the service mode of the Telematik control unit, because otherwise the Telematik emergency battery will be discharged when the battery is disconnected. To do this, enter the key sequence on the control handset #4610# and confirm it by pressing the Navi key.
3. Remove the cover over the water collection compartment, refer to Section Removal and installation the water collection compartment cover.
Warning: If the battery is only disconnected and not removed, you will need to slide the cover over the battery to the right and remove it.
4. Disconnect the cables from the battery, first the ground cable (1), then the positive cable (2).
5. Unscrew the screw (4) of the mounting plate (3) at the base of the battery.
- If necessary, disconnect the central gas outlet hose from the battery.
- Pull the battery out from underneath the mounting plate and remove it from the engine compartment.
Installation
1. Before installing the battery, clean the terminals until they shine. A brass wire brush is suitable for this purpose.
- Install the battery in place, slide the battery base under the mounting plate and tighten with torque 12 Nm.
- Before connecting the battery, make sure the ignition and all electrical consumers are turned off.
- First connect the positive cable to the positive terminal (+), then the negative cable to the negative terminal (-). Tighten the mounting nuts to the specified torque 6 Nm.
Warning: Incorrect battery connection may cause serious damage to the generator and electrical equipment.
Caution: Do not lubricate the battery terminals.
5. Install the cover over the water collection compartment, refer to Section Removal and installation the water collection compartment cover.
- If necessary, enter the radio code.
- If necessary, re-enter the radio programs.
- Set the clock.
- Models with Telematik system: Deactivate the service mode of the Telematik control unit. To do this, press the Navi button on the control handset.
