Make sure the battery tray is in good condition. Corrosion in the tray, clip and battery can be achieved with an aqueous solution of soda. Rinse all cleaned sprays thoroughly with water. All metal parts damaged by corrosion must be treated with a zinc primer, then painted.
Periodically (approximately every three months), check the battery charge level as described in Section 4A.
If the battery is discharged, the engine can be started from an external source.
1. On models without air conditioning, the battery is located at the left rear of the engine compartment. On models with air conditioning, it is located under the rear seat cushion.
2. Periodically inspect the outside of the battery for damage such as cracks in the case or cover. Check the tightness of the battery wire clamps to ensure good contact.
3. If corrosion is visible, remove the cables from the battery terminals, clean them with a small wire brush, and reinstall.
4. Auto shops sell various tools for cleaning battery terminals.
