Warning: Before removing the V-belt, mark the direction of rotation on the belt with chalk or felt-tip pen. Changing the direction of rotation of a used belt can cause it to break. When installing the belt, pay attention to its correct position on the pulleys.
Withdrawal
1. Set the front panel to the maintenance position, refer to Section Setting the Front Panel to the Maintenance Position.
2. Loosen the viscous fan with a 22mm wrench while holding the hub with the other wrench.
3. Remove the engine cover upwards from the holders.
4. Remove the front left and right toothed belt covers.
5. Loosen the screws securing the V-belt cover (arrows on the accompanying illustration) and take it out.
6. Loosen the screws securing the support (arrows on the accompanying illustration) and take it out.
7. Remove the cover from the compressor tension roller and unscrew the tension roller mounting bolt (arrow on accompanying illustration).
8. Remove the compressor drive V-belt.
9. Turn the tensioner with a socket wrench in the direction of the arrow in the accompanying illustration so that the locking holes are on top of each other. In this position, insert the AUDI-T10060 tool or a suitable mandrel into the holes (∅ 4 mm), thus fixing the tension device.
10. Remove the V-belt.
Installation
1. Put the V-belt on the crankshaft pulley first (1) and guide rollers (4/6) and then to the tension roller (7).
- 1 - crankshaft
- 2 - Power steering pump
- 3 - Fan with viscous coupling
- 4 - Guide roller 1
- 5 - Generator
- 6 - Guide roller 2
- 7 - Tension roller
2. Slightly turn the tension roller counterclockwise with a socket wrench, remove the locking pin and move the tension roller back.
3. Put the V-belt on the compressor pulley.
4. Install torque wrench (WITH) with an 8 mm socket wrench as shown in the accompanying illustration, and tension the V-belt in the direction of the arrow with a torque 7 Nm.
5. In this position, tighten the bolt (A) torque wrench 22 Nm.
6. Install the tension roller cover.
7. Attach the viscous fan while holding the hub with a second wrench.
8. Start the engine and visually check the running of the belt.
