Table of contents: Always place the vehicle on supports! ↓ Jacks ↓
If car maintenance is to remain just a hobby, then the external conditions must also correspond to this.

Always place the vehicle on supports!

Jacks are only good for lifting a car. They cannot serve as a reliable support when working under a car. Even in the greatest hurry, do not forget about the correct support for your raised car!

To secure the car while lifting it with a jack, it is necessary to support the wheels. To do this, you need to put stones, wooden or iron "shoes" or other objects under them to prevent the car from rolling.

Hollow blocks have proven themselves as a possible low-cost support. However, they should not be damp or cracked, otherwise they may collapse under load (fall apart). A board must be placed between the block and the body so that the load is distributed evenly over the surface of the entire block. The block itself must be with the holes facing up (vertically) on a flat and load-bearing surface (concrete or asphalt).

Jack stands are an ideal complement to a garage jack. However, there is a risk that when lifting one side of the car, the stands installed on the other side may tip over due to improper installation of the tripod. It is best to install the stands so that one leg points to the side and two points inside the car. The stands must have sufficient support area!

The overpass is definitely the best support option because it does not require a jack. In addition, the car stands quite securely.

Jacks

There are many designs of jacks - one for every budget and purpose. Here are some of them.

Car jack: Always use a small board underneath to prevent the jack base from being pressed into the ground.

Parallelogram jack: it is worth buying only a strong design. Such a jack is also suitable for work with a car whose body in the lifting areas has already become slightly worn. In this case, you can install such a jack closer to the middle of the body.

Hydraulic plunger jack: Before buying, you should check the lifting height. A jack that is too short will not lift the car wheels high enough. A jack that is too high will not be able to be installed correctly on the ground at all.

Garage Jack: For those who prefer to do the work themselves, a short, small garage jack is a good choice for easy storage.
