Always put the car on a support!
Jacks are only good for jacking up a car. They cannot serve as a reliable support when working under the vehicle. Even in your biggest rush, don't forget the right support for your raised vehicle!
To fix the car during jacking up, it is necessary to support the wheels. Why do you need to put stones under them, wooden or iron «shoes» or other object that keeps the car from rolling.
Hollow blocks have proven to be a possible inexpensive support. However, they must not be wet or cracked, otherwise they may collapse under load (fall apart). It is necessary to lay a board between the block and the body so that the load is distributed evenly over the surface of the entire block. The block itself must always stand with the holes up (vertically) on a flat and load-bearing surface (concrete or asphalt).
Rack stands are the perfect addition to your garage jack. However, there is a risk that when one side of the vehicle is lifted, the stands on the other side may tip over due to improper tripod positioning. It is best to install the racks so that one foot points to the side, and two points into the inside of the car. The stands must have sufficient footprint!
An overpass is by far the best support option, since a jack is not needed here. In addition, the car is quite reliable.
Jacks
There are many designs of jacks - one for every wallet and every purpose. Here are a few of them.
Car side jack: Always place a small plank underneath to prevent the jack leg from being pressed into the ground.
Parallelogram type jack: it is worth purchasing only a solid construction. A similar jack is also suitable when working with a car whose body is already slightly dilapidated at the lifting points. In this case, you can install a similar jack closer to the middle of the body.
Hydraulic Plunger Jack: You must check the lift height before purchasing. A jack that is too short will not lift the car's wheels high enough. A jack that is too high will generally not be able to be set correctly on the ground.
Garage jack: For those who prefer to work on their own, a short, small garage jack that is easy to store works well.
