Checking the battery charge (Audi 100 C4)

If the battery seems "powerless" despite the correct electrolyte level, you should check the degree of discharge. To do this, you need to find out the specific gravity of the battery acid. To check this, you need a hydrometer.

Unscrew the battery cap.

Use the hydrometer to draw in enough electrolyte so that the hydrometer (spindle) floats freely in it.

• 1.28 kg/l - battery fully charged;
• 1.20 kg/l - half charged;
• 1.12 kg/l - discharged.
