If you have problems with gear shifting, the gear shift mechanism can be adjusted without much effort, but it requires the help of a second person. Before starting work, check that the gear shift mechanism parts are not bent, and the bearing bushings may also be worn. The parts should move easily, and the gearbox, clutch and clutch control should be in perfect condition. Direct shifting from 5th gear to reverse gear should be blocked. If this shifting is not blocked, and also if only 5th gear and reverse gear do not engage, it is necessary to check and, if necessary, replace the corresponding locking devices.

Mounting position of the gear shift mechanism: 1 - thrust rod, 2 - gear shift rod (front part), 3 - gear shift lever. Arrow A: movement to engage gear, arrow B: movement to select gear.

1. Turn on neutral (turn off the transmission).

2. Remove the ball head together with the gear shift lever cover, as well as the center console cover.

3. Remove the center console cover upwards (arrow).

4. Unlock the connecting part 1 in the direction of the arrow, remove the ball head upwards together with the gearshift lever cover.

5. First lift cover 1 upwards in direction A, then pull it out in direction B, unscrew the screws (arrows C) and pull ashtray 2 out of the center console.

6. Remove the damping washer 1 and soundproofing cover 2 upwards.

7. Unscrew the soundproof cover for the gearshift housing (arrows). To be able to lower the housing down, unscrew the four fastening nuts that are located under the cover.

8. Measure the distance a between the two studs. The measurement should be taken from the center of one stud to the center of the other. The nominal value is 85 mm.

9. If the nominal value is not ensured, the required distance a is set as follows: Loosen the screw (arrow) of the thrust rod. Rear thrust rod (in the gear shift mechanism) should move easily on the sliding part back and forth. By moving the rod, adjust the distance a, then tighten the screw with a torque of 25 Nm.

10. After this, loosen the gear shift rod screw. The connection between the gear shift rod and the gear shift mechanism should move easily.

11. Now center the gear shift lever at the bottom, it should be centered on the ball joint. The distances between the ball joint and the lever (arrows) should be the same in all places. The lever should be vertical, secure it in this position.

12. Tighten the gearshift bar mounting screw to a torque of 25 Nm. The gearshift bar position must remain the same when tightened.

13. After installing the covers and the ball head of the lever, check the correct installation. In the neutral position, the lever should be in the branch for 3rd and 4th gear. With the clutch pedal depressed, all gears should shift easily. Pay special attention to the reverse lock. The gear shift lever should return on its own from the branch for 5th gear to the branch for 3rd and 4th gear. When shifting, the lever should not hit the cover of the center console.
