To remove the intermediate shaft, the engine must be removed from the vehicle. To remove the shaft, you must first remove the ignition distributor, the cylinder head can remain installed. The O-ring flange has a return port on the underside and must be properly installed. The flange determines the axial play of the shaft and must be replaced if the play exceeds 0.25 mm. An O-ring seals the flange on the motor.
The gland in the inner side of the flange must be replaced when removed. To install the oil seal, first install the shaft, and then the oil seal, as already described for the front crankshaft oil seal. Tighten bolts to 25 Nm during installation.
