To remove the intermediate shaft, the engine must be removed from the vehicle. To remove the shaft, the distributor must first be removed, the cylinder head can remain installed. The sealing ring flange has a return hole on the underside and must be installed accordingly. The flange determines the axial play of the shaft and must be replaced if the play exceeds 0.25 mm. The O-ring seals the flange on the engine.
The seal on the inner side of the flange must be replaced when removed. To install the seal, first install the shaft, and then the seal, as described for the front crankshaft seal. Tighten the bolts to 25 Nm when installing.
