Engine number

4 and 5 cylinder engines

The engine serial number is stamped on the left rear side of the cylinder block. In addition to the serial number, an engine code is stamped on the starter end of the cylinder block, below the cylinder head mounting plane. This code indicates the original cylinder bore size of the engine.

6-cylinder engine

The engine serial number is stamped on the right side inside the cylinder block, between the cylinder head and the hydraulic pump.

Transmission box number

There are two groups of numbers for identifying the gearbox. The first group is located on the top of the clutch housing. It contains the letters of the gearbox code (first 3 numbers or letters) and the date of manufacture. The second group is located on the side of the case and indicates the type of gearbox.

ATTENTION: The gearbox code is also available on the vehicle identification plate.

Model data sticker

Inside the trunk, on its lid, there is a sticker indicating the model code, chassis number, body type, paint number, engine and gearbox codes and a set of additional equipment.

Identification of body parts

The main body parts on all models from 1991 onwards are marked with the VIN number and the Audi emblem (4 rings). This is done to combat theft and the sale of the car in parts. All replacement genuine parts also have the Audi logo and a plate with the designation "R DOT" in the place of the VIN for this car.
