Removal

Caution: When removing the fan or radiator, the heater/air conditioner unit must be removed and disassembled.

Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

Drain the fluid from the cooling system.

Caution: If air conditioning is present, the system must be discharged.

Discharge the air conditioning system.

Disconnect the following parts:
  • Temperature sensor plug
  • Evaporator/Heater Plug Clamp
  • Temperature control unit wire
  • Vacuum hose on outside air supply flap

Disconnect the eye harness connector. Release the housing mounting bracket.

Remove the coolant hoses from the heater radiator pipes.

Mark and remove the yellow, green and red vacuum hoses from the heater body.

Remove the air duct hoses.

Loosen the heater housing mounting screws, two of them are in the passenger compartment and one in the engine compartment. Loosen the four evaporator housing mounting screws in the passenger compartment.

Hold the heater/evaporator assembly and remove it from the engine compartment bulkhead.

Remove the rubber bushing from the control cable to facilitate removal of the housing.

The halves of the case can be separated by removing the clamps at the top and bottom and prying them up with a small lever.

Remove the fan motor and heater radiator.

Installation

Install the fan motor and heater core into the housing. Make sure the housing gasket is in good condition and assemble the housing. Install the clamps.

Place the housing on the engine compartment bulkhead, install the rubber cable bushing and secure the housing with screws.

Connect air ducts, wires, vacuum lines and coolant hoses.

Fill the system with coolant and check for leaks. Charge the air conditioning system and check for leaks.

Caution. The refrigerant cools the surface it comes into contact with, including the skin and eyes. When in contact with an open flame, it evaporates, turning into a toxic gas. When working with the air conditioning system, it is necessary to protect your eyes and wear protective gloves.
