Gasoline engines
2. Remove the spark plugs as described in chapter 1A.
3. De-energize the engine control system so that it can be turned by the starter. To do this, remove the fuel pump relay from the relay box as described in the relevant part chapter 4 and disconnect the wiring from the ignition module.
Warning: In order to not ruin the catalytic converter, it is very important to shut off the fuel system.
4. Turn the engine over with the starter until the emergency oil pressure lamp goes out. If the lamp does not go out after a few seconds of engine rotation, check the oil level and condition of the oil filter. If everything is in order, check the condition of the wiring to the emergency oil pressure switch - do not continue starting until you are sure that oil is supplied to the engine at sufficient pressure.
5. Install the spark plugs, connect the wiring to the ignition module, and install the fuel pump relay.
Diesel engines
6. Disconnect the wire from the solenoid shut-off valve on the injection pump as described in chapter 4B.
7. Turn the engine over with the starter until the emergency oil pressure lamp goes out.
8. If the lamp does not go out after a few seconds of engine rotation, check the oil level and the condition of the oil filter. If everything is in order, check the condition of the wiring to the emergency oil pressure sensor - do not continue starting until you are sure that oil is supplied to the engine under sufficient pressure.
9. Repair solenoid valve wiring.
All models
10. Start the engine as usual. regardless of the fact that it may take longer to start because the fuel system has been opened and air has entered it.
11. If the engine starts, leave it to idle. Check for oil, coolant and fuel leaks. Do not be afraid if smoke appears from parts of the engine, which, when warmed up, evaporate the remains of oil and kerosene.
12. After making sure that everything is in order, leave the engine to idle until it warms up (until hot coolant flows through the upper radiator hose). Stop the engine.
13. On diesel engines, check the fuel injection timing of the injection pump and idle speed as described in chapter 4B.
14. After a few minutes, check the oil and coolant levels. Top up if necessary.
15. It is not necessary to tighten the head bolt after the first run.
16. If new pistons, piston rings or crankshaft liners were installed, the engine must be run in at least the first 1000 km. During this period, before driving, warm up the engine, do not drive "into tightness" (at low revs in high gear) or "at full throttle". After the oil has been broken in, it is recommended to replace the oil filter.
