Note: Before starting the engine, see Chapter 25, paragraph 80.
1. Check all connections to make sure there are no rags or tools left in the engine compartment.
2. If new pistons or crankshaft bearings have been installed, it may be necessary to temporarily increase the idle speed where possible.
3. Start the engine, set the idle speed. Check for oil, fuel and water leaks from the engine.
4. Initially there may be some noise from the hydraulic tappets, it should disappear after a few kilometers.
5. Start engine, warm up to normal operating temperature, adjust idle speed where applicable (Section 3).
6. If new pistons and crankshaft bearings were installed, the engine must be run in for the first 800 km. Do not operate the engine at wide open throttle, and do not overload.
