Note: Before starting the engine, see Chapter 25, paragraph 80.
1. Check all connections to ensure that no rags or tools are left in the engine compartment.
2. If new pistons or crankshaft bearings have been installed, it may be necessary to temporarily increase the idle speed where possible.
3. Start the engine, set it to idle mode. Check for oil, fuel and water leaks from the engine.
4. Initially there may be some noise from the hydraulic lifters, this should disappear over time after a few kilometers.
5. Start the engine, warm it up to normal operating temperature, where possible, adjust the idle speed (Section 3).
6. If new pistons and crankshaft bearings were installed, the engine must be run in for the first 800 km. Do not operate the engine with the throttle valve fully open, and do not overload it.
