Removal
1. On models with manual transmission, remove the transmission as described in chapter 7A and the clutch as described in chapter 6.
2. On models with AKGP, remove the box as described in chapter 7B.
3. The flywheel/faceplate mounting bolts are positioned asymmetrically. Loosen the bolts while holding the flywheel/faceplate from turning. Temporarily screw the bolt into the cylinder block and use a screwdriver to lock the flywheel/faceplate by the crown. A special tool can be made (Fig. 13.3).

4. Remove the flywheel/faceplate from the crankshaft (Fig. 13.4). If you remove the faceplate, note the position of the washer and spacer (behind the faceplate).

Examination
5. Check for wear and damage to the faceplate/flywheel. Inspect the gear ring - there should be no excessive wear of the teeth. If the teeth of the ring are worn, the entire faceplate is replaced. However, the flywheel does not need to be replaced - the flywheel ring can be re-pressed, but this work is best left to the specialists of the dealership car service. If the friction working surface of the flywheel/faceplate is worn, it can be turned, but this work should be performed by a professional turner of the dealership car service.
6. After removing the flywheel, check the condition of the needle bearing in the crankshaft heel - rotate it with your finger. A dried out or noisy bearing must be replaced. This requires a bearing puller. Press the new bearing into the crankshaft heel 1.5 mm below the end of the crankshaft.
Note: The bearing is not installed on crankshafts with automatic transmission.
Installation
7. Installation - reverse procedure. On models with automatic transmission, install the faceplate, temporarily securing it with the old bolts, tightening them to 30 Nm and check that the clearance between the rear surface of the block and the mating surface of the torque converter corresponds to 27±1 mm. If necessary, remove the faceplate and install a spacer in front of it to obtain the required clearance. The protrusion on the outer washer should face the torque converter. When installing the flywheel or faceplate, use new mounting bolts and apply anaerobic sealant to their threads. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
