The force we apply when pressing the clutch pedal must be transmitted to the release bearing. This happens in the Audi-100 hydraulically - like in the brake system. While you press the clutch pedal, the piston in the master cylinder (on the clutch pedal) squeezes a certain amount of fluid to the working cylinder (on the gearbox). There, the piston protrudes slightly from the cylinder and, through the clutch release lever, sets the release bearing in motion.
