Models with standard gear shifting
1. Apply the handbrake, raise the front of the car and install safety supports. Put the transmission in neutral.
2. Remove the heat shields from the underbody to gain access to the shift lever. To improve access, remove the exhaust downpipe and catalytic converter as described in chapter 4B.
3. Loosen the clamp bolt of the shift rod to the adjusting fork at the bottom of the gear shift lever (Fig. 2.3). Do not unscrew the bolt.

4. Working from inside the vehicle, unscrew the knob on top of the gearshift lever, unfasten and remove the boot.
5. Remove the sound insulation around the lever housing.
6. Make sure the hinge housing is installed horizontally. Make the necessary adjustments by loosening the two nuts, moving the housing and tightening the nuts.
7 Have an assistant hold the lever vertically so that the distance between the stops of the knurled joint is the same on both sides with the lever slightly tilted back. In this position, the lever is set in the middle position between third and fourth gear (fig. 2.7, a, b).

8. Make sure the transmission shift rod is in neutral position and tighten the adjusting bolt under the vehicle.
9. Check the ease of shifting all gears.
10. Install the lower heat shields, exhaust downpipe and catalytic converter (if they were filmed).
11. Install the sound insulation, cover and knob. Lower the car.
Models with short-speed gear shifting
12. Working in the passenger compartment, unscrew and remove the knob from the gearshift lever ("joystick"), unfasten and remove the cover.
13. Remove the sound insulation from the bottom of the joystick case.
14. Measure the distance between the rod and the body (Fig. 2.14). If it is not equal to 37 mm, loosen the rod bolt, move it and tighten the bolt.

15. Loosen the bolt of the clamp connecting the rod to the adjusting fork on the lever ("joystick") through the hole in the floor. Do not unscrew the bolt completely.
16. Make sure the hinge housing is horizontal. If it is not, loosen the two nuts, adjust the housing position and tighten the nuts.
17. Ask an assistant to hold the lever vertically so that the distance between the stops of the knurled joint is the same on both sides with the lever slightly tilted back. In this position, the lever is set in the middle position between third and fourth gear.
18. First make sure that the gearshift rod is set to neutral position, then tighten the adjusting bolt.
19. Install the sound insulation, cover and knob. Lower the car.
